We welcome Marci Miller and Matthew Reyes who joined CDHI this past November under the inaugural Digital Health DEI internship program.

Marci is a 2nd year Master's in Public Health (MPH) student from UC Berkeley in the Health Policy and Management division. Her career has been a powerful mixture of data science, healthcare technology, and social welfare. She was the Health Advocate Supervisor for the Alameda Health System and led revenue realization analytics for CloudMed (formerly Triage Consulting Group). Most recently, Marci was a data science product intern at Google where she analyzed key factors impacting web responsiveness. Marci is passionate about the implementation of digital health solutions to improve health equity for the most vulnerable populations.

Matthew is a 2nd year Master's in Public Health (MPH) student from UC Berkeley in the Epidemiology & Biostatistics division and is passionate about health equity, human-centered design, and precision medicine. He previously worked as a Pulmonary Function Technician at UCSF and later advanced as a volunteer researcher in the Pulmonary Division. Most recently, Matthew was a design intern for GoInvo where he contributed to open-source health technology projects. Currently, Matthew is a Data Consultant at Cal's D-Lab, an in-house department that offers data design expertise for social science and humanities researchers. He hopes to reduce barriers to healthcare, improve access for disadvantaged communities through their strengths and assets, and create a greater sense of belonging for communities in the health system.
Marci and Matthew are excited to bring a DEI lens to digital product implementation and analysis across a variety of CDHI initiatives.
“I’m proud to be a part of the CDHI UCSF community that is dedicated to the implementation of digital solutions for improving the health experience of patients. Indeed, I feel grateful for this unique opportunity to work with such a hard-working and creative group of individuals who share my passion for helping those most in need.” – Marci
“My lived experiences have led me to be passionate for realizing health equity, in alignment with the values of CDHI and UCSF. I hope to further bolster equity efforts and a sense of belonging, through digital health, with the many communities involved with UCSF.” - Matthew
CDHI’s DEI internship goals:
-
Provide paid opportunities and mentorship for historically underserved and excluded college student populations in gaining real-world experience
-
Expand the voices of young people in our discussions/research for how people interact with the health system
-
Value the inclusion of voices of all people, to share/gather/learn from experiences of those excluded and/or marginalized in the health care system
-
Expand recruitment pipeline of diverse talent
Welcome, Marci and Matthew!
