CDHI's Inaugural DEI Internship Program
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are important values at the Center for Digital Health Innovation (CDHI). These values drive the ways we address health equity in our products and solutions as well as ensure and support a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment among our colleagues.
To expand and diversify our recruitment pipeline, CDHI's DEI Committee established a paid DEI internship program. We cast the application net to the greater Bay Area colleges, including Community and State colleges, and received more than 65 applications!
Currently, the DEI Internship Committee has selected its five top candidates to interview and the final placement will go to two highly deserving college students. The requirement is for a minimum commitment of one semester/quarter with the possibility of an extension depending on project(s) assigned. The candidates' skills and interests will be matched with the appropriate project teams, and they will also be assigned mentors who will provide support and coaching.
The selection process has been difficult since we’ve encountered an array of talent that would make almost every applicant a great addition to CDHI.
Our DEI goals for this internship are to:

Provide paid opportunities and mentorship for historically underserved and excluded college student populations in gaining real-world experience

Expand the voices of young people in our discussions/research for how people interact with the health system

Value the inclusion of voices of all people, to share/gather/learn from experiences of those excluded and/or marginalized in the health care system

Expand recruitment pipeline of diverse talent
We expect to learn and improve from this first-round DEI Internship program. We will share more about this program and the selected interns in a future newsletter. The candidates will begin their internship in mid-November.
