AI Journal honored UCSF’s CDHI and its partner H2O.ai with two Global Excellence Awards for their Ref & Docs Innovation (previously Ref Auto), which automates the processing of documents coming into UCSF.

They won in the categories for “Best Use of AI in the Public Sector,” which showed how AI is being used in the organization, and “Best Use of Intelligence Automation,” which showed the effective automation of tasks.

Data Scientist Lu Chen, MS, talks about the incredible journey of collaborating with CDHI and H2O.ai to build the AI application to automate fax processing at UCSF.

About 1.4 million faxes are received at UCSF annually – 300,000 of which are referrals – Refs & Docs 2.0.0 is estimated to save more than 25,000 hours of staff time and 5,000 hours of clinician time annually. It is currently in beta testing at the Pediatric Access Center.

AI Journal received more than 250 entries from companies globally for its awards program.

Congratulations to both teams and their collaboration!
